Opportunity for Independence was incorporated in 1991 when Founder and current President, Eric Vanderville, rented a home in San Anselmo, hired one other staff person, and provided a residential service and supports to 4 gentlemen with
developmental disabilities

who resided in California ’s Developmental Centers.
Over the course of the next 9 years and into the year 2000, OFI developed five additional residential and vocational programs for hundreds of individuals with developmental and cognitive disabilities throughout Marin County.
Today we stand by a philosophy to continue developing individualized programs that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. We are committed to creating opportunities that assure a dignified lifestyle, access to the full range of what the community provides and the freedom to express individual potential and values.
We have been at 20 H St in San Rafael since we purchased the building in the spring of 1998.
